Pokémon is a multimedia franchise that skyrocketed to global popularity in the late 1990s.

However, the journey for many trainers began with a choice between three iconic starter Pokémon: Bulbasaur, Charmander, and Squirtle.

    Table of Contents

    • Bulbasaur
    • Charmander
    • Squirtle

    Bulbasaur

Bulbasaur, the grass/poison-type Pokémon, is known for its distinctive blue-green body and a large plant bulb on its back. As the first Pokémon in the National Pokédex, Bulbasaur represents the beginning of the Pokémon journey for many trainers. It strikes a balance between offense and defense, making it an excellent choice for new players.

Bulbasaur evolves into Ivysaur and then into Venusaur.

The plant on its back grows larger with each evolution, symbolizing the development of its powers.

    Charmander

Charmander, the fire-type starter, is known for its bright orange scales and a flame that perpetually burns at the tip of its tail. Charmander is often chosen for its aggressive and powerful fire-based attacks, appealing to trainers who prefer an offense-oriented gameplay.

Charmander evolves into Charmeleon and then into Charizard.

Charizard, in particular, has become one of the franchise’s most recognizable characters.

    Squirtle

Squirtle, the water-type starter, is known for its blue shell and playful personality. It is the choice for trainers who prefer a more defensive and strategic approach to battles.

Squirtle evolves into Wartortle and then into Blastoise.

Throughout its evolution, Squirtle develops a more formidable defense and a greater capacity for water-type moves.
