Waterdeep, often referred to as the City of Splendors, is one of the most iconic locations in the Forgotten Realms.
This bustling city is situated on the western coast of the continent of Faerûn, along the shores of the Sea of Swords.
Waterdeep is governed by a secretive group known as the Lords of Waterdeep, with one of its members openly known as the Open Lord, while the identities of the others are kept hidden.
The city’s economy thrives on trade, with its bustling marketplace, the City of the Dead (a large walled cemetery), and its many guilds and temples playing significant roles in daily life.
Waterdeep is also the starting point for many adventures, including the exploration of Undermountain, a vast dungeon complex beneath the city ruled by the mad wizard Halaster Blackcloak.
Over the years, Waterdeep has been the setting for numerous D&D adventures, novels, and video games. Adventure modules such as Waterdeep: Dragon Heist and Waterdeep: Dungeon of the Mad Mage have allowed players to explore the city’s streets and secrets in great detail.
