Icewind Dale is a frigid, remote region located in the northern part of Faerûn.
Known for its harsh, icy landscape, towering mountains, and deadly glaciers, Icewind Dale is a place where only the hardiest of creatures and people can survive. It is situated in the northwest of the continent, bordering the Spine of the World mountain range, and includes areas such as the Ten Towns, a collection of small, mostly human settlements that rely primarily on fishing and trading.
The region is famous for its role in several novels by R. A. Salvatore, particularly The Icewind Dale Trilogy, featuring the drow ranger Drizzt Do’Urden.
Icewind Dale has also been the setting for video games, including the Icewind Dale series, which are isometric role-playing games where players can explore the region, combat its many dangers, and uncover its secrets.
Magic, monsters, and the harsh elements are a constant threat to those living in or adventuring through Icewind Dale. Despite its dangers, the region is rich in adventure, with ancient ruins, mysterious artifacts, and legends waiting to be discovered.
